Rules and Guidelines

Please read over and sign at the end that you understand and are willing to comply with these rules. New Beginnings Ladies' Home shelter will work with you to give you the life skills you need to get a job and a permanent home.



  1. Ladies must submit a drug test and if anything shows up you will be admitted to NBM rehab center.
  2. Ladies will be responsible for all medical and dental bills.
  3. Doctor appointments will only be made in extreme discomfort or sickness.
  4. Ladies will not take any medication, unless approved by Lisa.
  5. Pain RX will be disbursed on a limited basis.
  6. You will administer all your own medication.
  7. *** Ladies must have a job within one week of arrival.
  8. All ladies must pay rent on a weekly basis, $125 plus $25 for each child.
  9. Rent is due on Fridays. You may give it to the dorm mom or the money office, no later than 4pm.
  10. Ladies' must be in their dorm no later than 9pm. Please be back on the property by 8pm.
  11. If you have children, they must be in your care at all times.
  12. Ladies are expected to pay for transportation anywhere except for work.
  13. *** NO CONTACT WITH ANYONE UNLESS APPROVED BY LISA OR GRANNY.
  14. *** All visitors to homeless shelter must be approved by Granny or Lisa.
  15. *** There will be no men at the homeless shelter.
  16. All visitors are subject to a drug test.
  17. Visitors may only visit with the person they came to see. Please do not visit with other ladies' or their families.
  18. Family is allowed to visit on visitation Saturday between 1pm to 4pm. There is family counseling afterward.
  19. *** No phone call will be made to Sharon or Lisa after 9pm unless there is a catastrophe or a death in the family. This applies to clients and their family.
  20. Moderate dress is required.
  21. Shorts, skirts and dresses must be 2 inches above the knee.
  22. No thongs.
  23. No spaghetti straps.
  24. 2 tank tops must be work at all times.
  25. No heels over 2 inches.
  26. Nothing is to be borrowed from another lady.
  27. No piercings can have jewelry in them, except for ears, no tongue, nose, eyebrows, belly button, etc.  No gages are allowed.
  28. Hair must be a natural color.
  29. No leggings will be worn as outerwear. They may be work under dresses or pants only.
  30. All clothing is subject to inspection by a dorm mom or a staff member. If you are told it is inappropriate, please change.
  31. *** Upon leaving, the ladies' bill must be paid in full.
  32. No visiting a graduate's home, unless given permission by the director or Granny.  The graduate must be home.
  33. Respect all other ladies on the property. Gossip is not allowed.
  34. Absolutely no foul language will be tolerated.
  35. Do not touch the thermostats.
  36. Do not hang anything on the walls or dresses.
  37. When you ride in any vehicles, it is your responsibility to keep up with your personal belongings.
  38. Sleeping is not allowed during the day.
  39. If you have free time during the day, work on journaling, reading the Bible and talking with Jesus.
  40. *** Upon leaving the homeless shelter, personal belongings must be removed. NBM will not be held responsible for any items left after you leave. THEY WILL GO TO THE THRIFT STORE AFTER 48 HOURS.
  41. *** Ladies may only smoke on this property 3x per day and only in the designated area. DO NOT SHARE YOUR CIGARETTES.
  42. You are required to go to morning and evening church services as well as all classes and meetings. No exceptions. If you miss one, there will be no Wal-Mart trip for that week.
  43. Monday thru Friday you will attend Praise, Worship and Prayer. You must be at the church by 6:30am. This is mandatory.
  44. Please go to the bathroom before church begins. If you need to use the bathroom during church, please let a staff member know quietly.
  45. NO TALKING IN CHURCH.
  46. Church services are a way to connect to God and let the Holy Spirit come to you.
  47. Be respectful to others in church.
  48. No gum, candy, or drinks are allowed in church.
  49. You may bring your own Bible, a notebook and a pen to church.
  50. If a family member comes to church, they may speak with you 15 minutes before or after church. No during church.
  51. Going to church off campus is a privilege. Do not take it lightly.
  52. Be respectful in church.
  53. When going to a church off campus, stay and sit with NBM.
  54. Do not talk or wave to anyone you may know.
  55. After 30 days, approved family members may attend off-campus church with you. But you must sit with NBM.
  56. Family may arrive no later than 8:30am on Sundays and 6:30pm on Wednesdays at Free Chapel in Gainesville.
  57. Ladies must have permission to enter the office and cannot be left alone in any office. As stated on the office door, you must knock before entering.
  58. No hanging out in the office at any time.
  59. *** Do not touch any computer or phone on this property.
  60. When entering the office, stop at the front desk and state why or what you need. If Lucy can take care of it, she will. sometimes your caseworker, Lisa or Granny is working with another client or on the phone. Please be respectful of their time.
  61. Shower must be taken daily. Clothes must be changed every day.
  62. No gossip of any kind is allowed.
  63. If you have a problem with another lady or staff member, follow the Matthew Code: First go to that person and try to resolve the issue. If it cannot be resolved, go in the order of command to try and resolve it. Dorm mom, Staff member, Lisa or Granny.
  64. You are not allowed in another ladies' room. There is no exception to this rule.
  65. Only one lady is allowed in the bathroom at all times.
  66. No one is allowed to go into any dorm or trailer other than the one you live in, without permission from a staff member.
  67. Prayer time with roommates occurs each night 30 minutes after Church, then lights out.
  68. You may not get out of bed earlier than 4:30am and please do not talk until 5:30am.
  69. Nail painting, hair coloring and letter writing can be done on Free Fridays.
  70. TV privileges are on Fridays from 6-10pm and on Visitation Saturdays from 1-5pm.
  71. You or someone else may not cut your hair in the dorms.
  72. Do not touch any computer or phone on this property.
  73. In the dining room, you are responsible for cleaning up your mess and removing your dishes from the table.
  74. Everyone will be thankful for what is prepared and will eat what is prepared.
  75. If you are not assigned to the Kitchen or a Staff member, you are not allowed in the kitchen during prep times. No exceptions. We have to follow rules.
  76. Only water is allowed in bedrooms.
  77. You will be assigned a laundry day. You may only wash clothes on your assigned day.
  78. Only use cold water when washing clothes. No exceptions.
  79. The laundry room is not to be used after 9pm.
  80. If you need to iron clothes, it may be done in the laundry room ONLY. Not in the dorm rooms.
  81. No one is allowed upstairs before 4pm for any reason.
  82. Everyone is assigned a chore when entering this program.
  83. Chores will be done every day. EVERY DAY.
  84. Chore time is between 3:30 and 4pm.
  85. Chores will be inspected by the Dorm mom or a staff member. If you do not do your chore, you will be put in restriction.
  86. Shopping is a privilege.
  87. You may not bring a purse or speak to anyone outside of NBM when shopping.
  88. Return to the van at the scheduled time.
  89. All merchandise must be in original packaging.
  90. You must have a receipt and all money not spent must be returned.
  91. If you work a job, you may keep $5 on you.
  92. If you are on restriction, you will only be given $5 for shopping.
  93. You are only given $15 on shopping days.
  94. If you request extra money for a specific item, you may only spend the extra money on that item. Nothing else.
  95. *** There will be no males in the dorms at any time.
